GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Purpose. The purpose of this MARADMIN is to
provide awareness of some of the current data management and
artificial intelligence training resources available to Marines and
Government Civilians. These resources represent the currently
available training tools as the USMC expands its data management and
artificial intelligence (AI) training and education across the
force. The end state is to establish a baseline of basic awareness
for all Marines, with opportunities for more advanced, specialized
training for those seeking to develop deeper expertise in these
critical capabilities.
2. Background
2a. Per Reference (a), the Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I)
is appointed as the Service Lead for Data and AI. Ref (a)
establishes the Service Data Office (SDO) to lead the transformation
of the Marine Corps into a data-centric and AI-enabled force. A
highly trained and skilled workforce is critical to ensure Marine
Corps data is Visible, Accessible, Understandable, Linked,
Trustworthy, Interoperable, and Secure (VAULTIS).
2b. Per Reference (b), the Marine Corps established the USMC AI
Implementation Plan to align resources and activities across five
primary goals: AI Mission Alignment, AI Competent Workforce, AI
Deployment at Scale, AI Governance, and Partnerships and
Collaboration. To build an AI-Competent Workforce, specific tasks
are assigned to the Training and Education enterprise to identify,
prioritize, and institutionalize proactive learning resources.
2c. Established as a direct-reporting element to the Deputy
Commandant, Training and Education (DC T&E) Command Data and
Analytics Office (CDAO) serves as the command's authoritative voice
for data governance, analytics, and artificial intelligence
integration across the training and education enterprise. To ensure
the force remains informed of rapidly evolving digital resources,
TECOM CDAO will publish this training resource update on a quarterly
basis, providing regular updates on available training and workforce
development opportunities.
3. Available Training for Marines and Government Civilians
3a. Marine Corps Electronic Learning Environment (MCeLE) offers a
variety of data and AI resources, to include both self-paced and
instructor-led courses. Per Reference (c), completion of the Basic
AI Course (CDETBAIC01) is mandatory for all Active Duty and Reserve
Marines, both officer and enlisted, no later than 31 December 2026.
Civilians working within Marine Corps departments are also highly
encouraged to complete this course. Additionally, II MEF hosts data
training resources on MCeLE, to include the Basic Data Literacy
Course (DATA0BAS01), providing Marines with an introductory course
on working with and interpreting data to inform decisions and
support data initiatives in their organizations. MCeLE can be
accessed at https://www.mcele.usmc.mil.
3b. IT Modernization, Centers of Excellence hosted live AI Training
sessions in 2024 in partnership with multiple academic institutions
