How the Marine Corps CFT is scored
The Combat Fitness Test measures a Marine's functional, combat-related fitness across three events: movement to contact, ammo can lifts, and maneuver under fire. Each event is worth up to 100 points, for a maximum CFT score of 300.
Points for each event are awarded on a sliding scale set by your age and gender, so the same time or lift count is worth different points for different Marines. This calculator uses the scoring tables from MCO 6100.13A — the same data that powers the CorpsGuide app.
To pass, you must meet the minimum in every event and reach at least a 3rd-class total. A maxed-out 300 is a perfect CFT.
The three CFT events
Movement to contact
An 880-yard sprint run for time in boots and utilities. Faster times score more points, up to the maximum needed for 100.
Ammo can lifts
Lift a 30-pound ammo can from your shoulders to overhead as many times as you can in two minutes. More repetitions score more points.
Maneuver under fire
A timed combat course combining sprints, crawls, a casualty drag and carry, an ammo can carry, and a grenade throw. Faster times score more points.
CFT classes and passing score
Your total across all three events determines your CFT class:
| Class | Total score |
|---|---|
| 1st Class | 235–300 |
| 2nd Class | 200–234 |
| 3rd Class | 120–199 |
| Fail | Below 120 |
You must also meet the minimum in each individual event — a total in the passing range still fails if any single event is below its minimum.
Age, gender and altitude brackets
Standards are grouped into age brackets from 17 through 51-plus and differ by gender. Enter your exact age above and the calculator maps it to the correct bracket automatically (ages over 51 use the 51-plus standard). Marines testing at 4,500 feet or higher are scored against separate altitude-adjusted tables for movement to contact and maneuver under fire — select the altitude option on those events.
Frequently asked questions
What is a passing CFT score?
You need at least 120 total points (3rd class) and must meet the minimum in each event. A 1st-class CFT is 235 or higher.
What is the maximum CFT score?
300 — a perfect 100 points in each of the three events.
What are the three CFT events?
Movement to contact (an 880-yard timed run), ammo can lifts (30-pound lifts overhead in two minutes), and maneuver under fire (a timed combat course).
How heavy is the ammo can?
30 pounds. You lift it from your shoulders to overhead as many times as you can in two minutes.
Do CFT standards change at altitude?
Yes. Marines testing at 4,500 feet or higher are scored against altitude-adjusted tables for movement to contact and maneuver under fire. Select the altitude option in the calculator.
Are these the current CFT standards?
The calculator uses the scoring tables from MCO 6100.13A, the same source the CorpsGuide app uses. Always confirm against the official order for edge cases.
