GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. The purpose of this MARADMIN is to announce the
Lateral Move (LatMov) opportunity into Primary Military Occupational
Specialty (PMOS) 8157, Career Detachment Commander (DetCdr), and to
outline the application procedures for eligible Marines.
2. Career DetCdrs are Marine Security Guard (MSG) Staff
Non-Commissioned Officers assigned to the Marine Corps Embassy
Security Group (MCESG). As subject matter experts, they
establish a permanent cadre of professional MSGs in critical
operational and leadership roles to enhance command operations,
training, readiness, and overall effectiveness. Available billets
include DetCdr assignments at critical U.S. diplomatic posts
worldwide, Instructor/Advisors at the MSG School, and Operations,
Training, Screening, and Assignment Chiefs.
3. LatMov applicants must meet the following criteria:
3.a. Must have completed a minimum of 24 months in a DetCdr billet
at the time of request. Second-tour DetCdrs must also serve at least
24-months in their current assignment before applying.
3.b. Must hold the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). Staff
Sergeants who are "select grade" in their PMOS for GySgt may apply.
GySgt's currently "select grade" for First Sergeant or
Master Sergeant are not authorized to submit.
3.c. Must complete medical screening with MCESG Medical when
directed.
3.d. Must receive a favorable recommendation letter from the 8157
PMOS Selection Board.
4. Submission Process for Marines currently serving as a DetCdr.
4.a. Notify their Region Command of their intent to apply by
submitting MCESG Form 8157/1.
4.b. The Region Commander will endorse the request and submit it
along with the MCESG Form 8157/1 (as enclosure 1) to the MCESG
Commander at [email protected].
4.c. Upon receipt of the request, Marines will be notified and
directed to submit a Reenlistment, Extension, Lateral Move (RELM)
request via the Total Force Retention System (TFRS) through their
Region Career Counselor.
4.d. The RELM request will route through the MCESG chain of command
to Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA) for review by the
Marine's current PMOS Monitor and then the 8157 Monitor.
4.e. MCESG Headquarters will process the request and coordinate all
follow-on interview requirements.
4.f. If approved, MMEA-1 will report the PMOS of 8157.
5. Submission process for Marines not currently serving as an MSG.
5.a. Marines must contact their local unit Career Counselor to
initiate a LatMov request through their chain of command and current
PMOS Monitor at MMEA. Upon MMEA's initial decision, the 8157 Monitor
will be notified via TFRS of the pending request.
5.b. Applicants will be scheduled for a virtual interview with the
MCESG Screening and Selection Board.
5.c. Within five (5) working days of the interview, applicants will
receive a formal decision letter from MCESG. This letter will be
included in the LatMov package processed by MMEA for final review
and approval.
5.d. If approved, the Intended MOS will be assigned by MMEA-1.
Marines will remain with their parent command until subsequent
orders to MSG DetCdr School are issued by the 8157 Monitor.
5.e. The PMOS will be awarded upon the completion of the MSG DetCdr
School.
6. Interested Marines should contact the 8157 Monitor.
6.a. Marines currently serving as a DetCdr will receive further
submission guidance via internal MCESG Headquarters correspondence.
7. This MARADMIN applies to the Active Component only.
8. Release authorized by MajGen Fridrik Fridriksson, Director,
